Belonging to the spruce family, this Christmas tree, which is extremely popular in Germany, is recognisable by its bluish-grey foliage, fairly stiff branches and prickly needles.
It is invariably provided with netting, whether supplied cut, root-balled or in a container.
A special selection into designated plots allows identification of trees with intensely blue foliage which are highly prized in top-of-the-range garden centres.
Its slightly longer growing period requiring more attention and care makes the tree more expensive than the Norway spruce or Serbian spruce.
